Ms. Lauryn Hill brought another sold out night to the Observatory OC.
Approximately one year after her first appearance in the city of Santa Ana (CA), Ms. Hill returned to the Observatory OC generating a sold out show once again.
This time around, L-Boogie was accompanied by Daniel Marley which brought out a good number of his fans to the event. He recited some of his tracks like “Waiting For the War”, “If You Go”, and “2 Feet”. The Bob Marley grandkid also performed a few covers by the late great legend.
Ms. Hill’s deejay rocked a nice set as her band settled and added the finishing touches to the stage before her arrival. He played some of Lauryn’s features, such as Nas’ “If I Ruled the World” and “Turn the lights down low” alongside Bob Marley. He played a few reggae hits aside from dropping a few respectable rap cuts which the crowd greatly appreciated.
At about half past ten, he asked “Y’all ready for Lauryn Hill?”, and in the midst of the screams, the lights dimmed and she made her way onto the stage.
She began her set beautifully with “I Gotta Find Peace of Mind” alongside her talented band. She followed up with “The Mystery of Inequity” and proceeded to do a few more tracks off of her MTV Unplugged release.
Lauryn did the Nina Simone tribute track “Feeling Good” right before proceeding into a more up-tempo part of her performance.
Her band sped things up as she did a very energetic version of “Final Hour” which weaved right into “Lost Ones”. At this point, Lauryn just began to perform tracks in which she rapped. L-Boogie was out of the bag and she served fans with verses off “Ready or Not”, “How Many Mics”, and the famously lovable “Killing Me Softly” Fugees hit.
As expected she also took the time to perform a few Marley tribute tracks. “Could You Be Loved” had everyone in the building singing and dancing along. The atmosphere was amazing and the moment itself was amazing to experience.
Unlike last year, Ms. Hill did not stick around an extra hour after ending her set to fulfill fans with signatures and pictures. She gave a heartfelt “thank you” to all who attended before exiting the stage as fans applauded her enthusiastically.
We loved the energy from Ms. Hill and the energy the fans reciprocated. Needless to say, fans were very content with her performance once again.
It was a honor to have the Queen back in Santa Ana grounds for the second time.
